Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about Will Kits.

How do I get my free Will Kit?

Complete the information form, and based on your preference, a licensed insurance agent will deliver the Will Kit either electronically via email or to your home. They will guide you through the process of completing the Will Kit. After filling it out, you'll be required to sign the documents in the presence of a notary and two witnesses, as outlined in the instructions for each document, for them to be legally effective.

How many people in the United States have a will?

According to a Caring.com survey from 2022, only 33% of Americans have put these plans in place, according to a new survey from senior living referral service Caring.com. That means that 67% are leaving what happens to them and their assets in case of disability or death up to others, including the state.

Why is it important to have a will?

Having a will is crucial because without one, the state will decide how your belongings are distributed, in accordance with relevant laws. This legal process is known as intestate succession and occurs when someone passes away without a valid will.

Are the documents legally recognized?

Absolutely, the forms included in the Legacy Will Kit are templates designed to aid you in preparing legally recognized estate planning documents. However, it's essential to understand that this Will Kit doesn't replace the need for legal advice from a licensed attorney. It's important to recognize that each person's situation and estate planning requirements are unique. Therefore, we highly advise you to consult with an attorney to review your will and any other estate planning documents you create. This ensures they comply with state laws and accurately reflect your intentions.

Will this cost anything?

There is NO COST! This Will Kit is provided to you free of charge.

How is it free?

These are provided at no cost as part of the program sponsored by our union partners. Please take a few minutes to listen to the representative who will be showing you how to complete the will kit, assigning the beneficiary for your complimentary policy, and setting up the health supplement discount card. The additional programs are available to you on a strictly voluntary basis.

What all will I need to complete the will kit?

A licensed insurance agent will provide all documentation either in person or electronically. Below are some helpful preparation tips:

Compile a list of personal items and tangible property you wish to leave to your loved ones.

If you're including a loved one residing at a different address in your Will Kit, ensure you have their mailing address readily available for reference.

When signing your will, ensure it's done in the presence of a notary public and at least two witnesses. These individuals must witness your signing and sign the will in your presence. They should not be related to you by blood, adoption, or marriage, nor should they be beneficiaries under your will. Both you and the witnesses should provide identification, such as a driver's license, to the notary public.
